MY AE86 HAS RETURNED HOME!!!
I got back into town at about 8:10pm tonight. The car is running SO strong. It sounds beautiful. She's smogged and registered. Now I just need to see if the DMV branch at the AAA office still has my ENDER DI plates. They said they have to return them Jan 1, but AAA wasn't open today and they'll be closed tomorrow too, so hopefully the plates will still be there Monday morning.
Unfortunately, because of one problem after the other, I didn't get the Ring & Pinion nor the new LSD installed. We forgot that we needed a crush ring to complete the install... We couldn't get a hold of the guy who could correctly set the backlash... we didn't even get a hold of my car till this afternoon just before I had to leave... forgot that it was delivered without license plates, so I had to go to the DMV to get a temporary sticker... which meant I needed to pay up for 2005's registrations... the trip - as far as planning went - was ALL screwed up.
So I got to drive it home with the R&P howling like mad. It was so loud that when I stopped for gas, the mini mart didn't have ear plugs, so I bought this little pack of rubber erasers and stuck those in my ears. CRIMINY that thing is loud at 80mph.
A couple of observations about the car before I forget:
- it was supposedly aligned, but it's pulling pretty strongly to the left.
- temperature gauge never moves further than one needle's width away from the cold side.
- one headlight is out, could be a bad connector (which I knew it had).
- trim around windshield is missing.
- where'd the hood prop go?!
- hatch still leaks, thought I fixed that. =(
- FIND THE HEAD DECK'S FACEPLATE!!!

| OMG... Gabe just called me. He said that Best Motoring called him to ask him to be part of their next Touge Showdown and that Keiichi Tsuchiya would be driving his car. It will take place Monday at Willow Springs Raceway. =O |

Yesterday, I got a call from Gabe saying that he found a good condition ring and pinion. Thank God. Now we can finally get this project wrapped up. Once I get it back, it'll get new carpet and a primer paint job. At least then it'll be all one color.
I tried calling Tim today too to see if he knows the R&P is incoming and to get some info for his website. I got his answering machine and no call back. I'll try again tomorrow. |
