I've been having problems with my steering rack. At first, I thought it was just loose in its mounts. But when I took a look underneath, it looked like the driver side lower clamp mount was breaking free of the crossmember. It would twist side to side as you turned the steering wheel back and forth.
Today, I had Will weld up that bottom half of the bracket back onto the cross member. The steering feels more secure, but the rack is still slipping slightly within its mounting brackets. I dunno WTF to do with it. I'll try tightening the bolts hopefully tomorrow.
*sigh* |

Teh Hotness...
This weekend, Will came down to give me my XMas present: we fixed all the dents on my AE86 and then primered it black. We also painted all the trim with black bumper paint. She's so sexy now. =)

There were a couple downsides to the weekend. It rained cats and dogs the entire time which made things difficult get the job accomplished. There were a lot of seams and cracks on the car that retained water, which ruined any chance of the paint to work well in those places. I'll have to go back at some point and repaint a few areas that had water in them. In any case, I'm way excited to no longer have a 6-color car.
Now all that's left is to get the 3rd member from Gabe that has the new ring & pinion and new LSD in it and get a new carpet kit. (Which reminds me... it turns out that Gabe has the head deck's face plate. He hid it so it wouldn't get stolen while the car was floating around Placerville.) After that, I reassemble the interior with the parts I already have. yay! |
